I photographed Sterling and Angela’s wedding in 2010, and I’m very glad that I was able to photograph their newborn – 5 weeks old in these photos! Hmmm…. think they might be Lakers fans?

Old Town Orange

leave a comment »

A friend of mine is a fashion designer/stylist – we got together at beautiful Old Town Orange in Southern California for a shoot. I always enjoy working with her because she’s always patient enough for me to bring out my film cameras and wait to have the photos processed and scanned. Aside from a few photos shot digitally, most of these were taken with my EOS 3, Mamiya RZ 67, and the Yashica-mat 124G she’s holding in one of the photos.

On a related note, I just received my copy of Jonathan Canlas’ “Film is Not Dead” book. I’m a longtime fan of not only his work, but his dedication to analogue photography. If you’re a digital photographer and you’ve been thinking of getting into film (either again, or for the first time), buy the book and check out his Facebook page; he’s got a ton of knowledge to share.

E+W – The Proposal

leave a comment »

I’m used to shooting engagement sessions, but the opportunity to photograph a couple actually getting engaged isn’t one that comes up too often. I was very fortunate last week to receive an inquiry about just such a thing. After talking to the groom-to-be, we picked a time and a location. We met early at Mastro’s Ocean Club in Newport Beach to touch base and plan out the evening (and get a few photos in!). Later that evening, I arrived with my girlfriend (a lovely lady herself and the perfect decoy for my camera) about 10 minutes prior to the couple. During dinner, I discretely captured some photos of the couple – eating, drinking, laughing, and looking through two journals they had kept during their relationship. At last the time came, and presented a card to her that summed up his feelings. After she read the card, he asked her to stand and went down on one knee.

As you can see, she said yes! I would like to offer my congratulations and best wishes – they make a beautiful couple! To E & W – thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special evening; it was a privilege to be there while you moved on to the next step in not only your relationship, but your lives.

I would like to thank Dale at Mastro’s for being so accommodating. He let us arrive early before the restaurant opened and was very gracious in letting us pick out our tables and working with us to make sure the evening unfolded as planned. Mastro’s Ocean Club

Family Shoot Sneak-Peek

leave a comment »

Here’s a teaser from a family shoot I did last weekend at the Cerritos Sculpture Garden. They’re good friends of mine, and it’s always a pleasure to photograph them!

On a side note, who says film is dead? In a addition to my digital gear, I brought my Mamiya 645 along to this shoot, with a few rolls of Kodak’s “new” Portra 400. I love the colors, especially considering that these are almost straight off of the scanner, with only minor tweaking in post-production.

This place is absolutely amazing! If it weren’t a 5 hour drive away, I could spend all my free time here, and I can’t wait to find the right couple to bring out here for engagement photos :)

Wedding: Tiffany & Jeff

with one comment

Tiffany and Jeff got married at the beautiful Tivoli Terrace in Laguna Beach. I’ve been there several times, but this was the first time I had the opportunity to take photos in the Pageant of the Masters auditorium, which was very cool!
